Happy birthday, Mr. Dickens
I was trained by my high school English teacher to view Mr. Dickens with some disdain. (Cardboard characters. Plot twist upon plot twist upon plot twist.) However, I have since read and loved Bleak House — arguably the most Dickensian of his works — and the novels of Wilkie Collins, to whom Mr. Dickens was both friend and foil, and must thank Charles Dickens for the pleasure all of those works have brought me.
